HIGH SIERRA HOBBIES has closed due to the death of owner Charles E. Gardner on April 28, 2010. On behalf of our dad, we would like to thank all of you for your continued support of our father during his time at High Sierra Hobbies. Owning the store was a dream come true for him, and he valued the friendships with his customers and members of the model train community.

GARDNER, CHARLES (Chuck) E. passed away on April 28, 2010, in Reno, Nevada, after a year long battle with cancer. Chuck was born on June 7, 1952 to James Edward Gardner and Treacer Louise Walling, in Houston, Texas. He was Valedictorian of his senior class at Furr High School in Houston, Texas, was a member of the National Honor Society, and graduated from St. Edward's University in 1988. He moved his family from Texas to California in 1989. He loved to ride his bicycle through the wine country and his proudest moments were attending his daughters' soccer games and orchestra performances and spending time with his grandsons, Kristopher and Kyle. After retiring from Health Plan of the Redwoods in 2002, Chuck moved to Reno, Nevada, where he was finally able to pursue his dream of opening a hobby/model railroad store (High Sierra Hobbies, Inc.). Chuck is survived by his loving daughters Autumn (T.J.) Gardner, of Reno, Nevada, and Summer (Kris) Strouse, of Windsor, California, as well as his grandsons, Kristopher and Kyle Strouse. The family would like to thank the Oncology and ICU staff at Renown Regional Medical Center, in Reno, Nevada, and Reno Oncology Consultants, and especially, Dr. Aaron Bowman, for the wonderful and compassionate care they provided. Chuck's ashes were buried in Houston, Texas, alongside his parents and grandparents.
